Runway projects
A project to replace the runway lighting with a new LED lighting system is proceeding and may take place next spring. This project is independent of the plan to do a complete runway resurfacing and widening. The larger runway project planning is making headway now that the airport has completed a sales agreement for the purchase of adjoining land and updated the easement agreements with adjacent landowners. That final project is awaiting scheduling by the Bureau of Aviation.

Obstruction clearance and night approaches
The airport has completed a major tree obstruction removal project in order to regain our night GPS and VOR approaches. Over 70 nearby trees have been cut down or topped. This multi-year effort required cooperation from local residents, businesses and the local townships. The next step is for the FAA to fly our approaches in order to reinstate the approaches. The board has worked with the FAA to try to move up the schedule for this by year end.

Revamped east ramp
The airport is planning to revamp the east ramp over the next year. The project will include new paving, new grading and a pad site for four corporate hangars. The related project to build the four large hangars on the ramp has been delayed in part due to a significant increase in the cost of construction.

David Nelson
Anyone who does not know Dave has not been around the airport for long. Starting in the late 90's, Dave served as airport manager for 6 years and as an airport board member and secretary for 22 years. Dave recently "retired" from his position on the board. Dave owns shares in and manages one of the Piper Cubs on the field. He previously owned a Piper Cherokee 160 and a Piper Dakota. You can often find Dave at his hangar E-1 during the week and around breakfast time on Sunday mornings.

Bill Mittman
Bill has served as our airport solicitor since the airport was purchased by pilots in the 1990's. Bill recently "retired" from that position to spend more time on other pursuits, including spending time at his vacation home on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Bill owns a Piper Arrow that he routinely flies with his wife Cathy to Virginia. Bill keeps his Arrow in hanger E-1.
