Top Story - New Runway

Runway reconstruction planned
A pre-bid meeting took place in January to attract potential contractors to reconstruct our runway in 2025. If all goes well, Phase 1 would take place in the spring or summer this year and consist of widening to 60 feet, requiring approximately 15 days of closure. Phase 2, would happen in the fall and consist of complete milling, resurfacing, repainting and an additional 10 days. More communication to shareholders will follow.

East Ramp

The east ramp has been completely refurbished, including leveling, resurfacing, drainage improvement and new electrical service to tie downs. A new row of corporate hangars are under construction to be completed this spring.

Airport Sign

A new airport sign has been installed at the entrance on Ward Avenue after a long period of design, placement discussions, permitting, and construction. ProSigns of Downingtown did the build and installation for us. The false brick construction is sturdy and expected to last for many years with no maintenance.

Runway LED lighting

A project to replace the runway lighting with a new LED lighting system is proceeding. The supplies have been procured and we are waiting for the contractor to begin construction. This project is planned to take place at nighttime prior to or in concert with the runway resurfacing.

Tree removal

Although sufficient trees were removed to reinstate our night approaches, the airport continues to mitigate future issues by removing trees identified by the FAA. A large section of trees have been removed north of runway 9. Additionally, trees have been removed along PennDOTs right of way along route 202 and on business lots on the west side of 202.

Other projects

Macadam improvement and parking lot sealcoat has been completed. Airport fencing repairs have been made, outside hangar row lights were upgraded to LED lights, and LED lights have been made available to hangar owners as part of a free PECO efficiency program.

Land acquisition

The airport has purchased land from QVC along the north edge of the runway to simplify plans to widen the runway. Additionally, we are acquiring a small plot of land from Merrill Gardens at minimum cost. This will give us complete control of our taxiway at the runway 9 end. Additional purchases are being considered to give the airport more control of our runway and taxiway surfaces on the east end.

News from Brandywine...

This newsletter is compiled by the Brandywine Regional Airport Board of Directors to inform shareholders, renters and airport users about ongoing projects at the airport.
Pat D. is a new fuel lineman here at Brandywine, recently retired from the Pennsylvania state police. He rides and collects new and antique motorcycles. Pat is married with one son in grad school, and actually worked as lineman at Brandywine in the early 1990’s, helping to pay for his own college. One day, Pat stopped by the terminal reminiscing about working here and John Kassab offered him a job. John says “Pat already had an understanding of airport procedures, he is eager to stay busy, he is mechanically and safety minded, and he has a flare for recognizing improvements that need to be done.”
